Radon and the Risk in Rentals – Tips from a Professional Property Manager in Salem, OR
Mendell Gosnell - Wednesday, August 12, 2015
Today we’re talking about radon and the risk it can pose in rental properties. If you don’t have a professional property management company taking care of these things for you already, there are a few things you need to know.
What is Radon?
Radon is a cancer causing gas that you cannot see, taste or smell. The only way to detect it is by testing for it properly. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in the earth’s soil and the rocks in the soil.
There’s a bit of radon in the air we breathe every day. It’s found all over the place, and it’s in higher concentrations in different areas. There is a low to moderate risk for high radon levels in the Willamette Valley.
Testing for Radon
Lastly and the most important thing to know is that you can fix a radon problem with proper ventilation and a good irrigation system. If you have testing done and you have higher levels, you need to address those and take care of them so your tenants and your property are protected.
If you have any questions about how to test for radon in your rental property or you need to lower the levels you have already detected, please contact us at Centurion Real Estate Management, and we’d be happy to help you protect your investment.
